Cool title huh.
But just in case you were thinking this one of those sorts of posts about Florence + the Machine, Lana Del Rey (admittedly a guilty pleasure of mine) or Lykke Li, (even though they are all chicks and they all make awesome music), I wanted to share some other amazing musicians you mightn't have heard of and hopefully you'll become a fan too!
JULIANNA BARWICK (usa)
Last week I saw her perform and beforehand the only thing I knew about her was that her description for the event compared her to Philip Glass. This was all the information I needed. If you know me on facebook or twitter then you probably know I tend to get a bit carried away with my love for composer Philip Glass. But, it turns out, she actually isn't much like Philip Glass at all but I fell hard for her. Her incredible voice that she looped on itself just sounded so ethereal and beautifully epic, I'm not going to lie, I actually got a bit teary.
GAZELLE TWIN (uk)
Another experimental musician, Gazelle Twin (Elizabeth Walling), is dark and dreary but absolutely moving. If you like Fever Ray or Björk then you should give Gazelle Twin a listen because I absolutely love her.
PAINTED FACE (usa)
Painted Face is Allie Alvarado and she is incredibly cool. I'm a sucker for a female singer with a synth (if you can't tell) and Painted Face ticks all my boxes. I hope she comes to Australia one day, because I'd be all over that like a hot rash.

RUBY FRÖST (nz)
I don't really know much about her other than she's from New Zealand, she has really cool hair and the video for this song Moonlight is rad.

ZOWIE (nz)
Another Kiwi lass! I saw her when she supported Architecture In Helsinki last year and she was pretty damned cool. I absolutely looooove this video for her song Broken Machine!

I think 2012 is going to be a big year for her. She's played a whole bunch of festivals and will be supporting Chairlift when they play here in Aus next week. I wont get to see her until March when she tours to Adelaide but I'm really looking forward to it!
