Lauren DiCioccio

So I'm a bit late to the game in regards to Lauren DiCioccio's work but she's definitely found herself a new fan in me.  These organza embroidered bags are based on plastic bags the artist found on the street or from shops and are her response to the negative impact they have on our environment.

I have to say, I'm proud that South Australia has banned plastic bags for the past couple of years (along with the Northern Territory and just recently, ACT).  Working in a supermarket I find it hilarious when customers roll their eyes or complain about having to spend an extra 15c for a plastic bag but hopefully the rest of the country will follow our lead!

See more of Lauren's amazing embroidered objects on her website here.

9 secrets:

  1. These are so beautiful! And I`m so glad that Australia is now banning plastic bags - makes me happy) I`m such an eco geek I actually want a little bag like this)

  2. These look great! I really like the one that says 'thank you' repeatedly. Good on S.A for that. Hopefully VIC will also follow. People need to get on the Coles recyclable bags man, I have a purple one, it's pretty hip, you know? xD

  3. These are adorable. I love them. I read an article recently about the impact of plastic bags on the environment, and how most recycling centers can't recycle them because they gunk up the machines. I still get them at the market quite a bit because I live in the city and have to pick up after my dog, and I figured it's better to reuse the grocery bags than to purchase the plastic bags they sell at pet stores for the purpose of picking up after your dog.
