I call this my Golden Egg top because it makes me look quite eggy hahah but I love it. It was suggested by someone who reblogged me on tumblr that I should 'accentuate' my waist with a belt or 'accentuate' my figure with some heels. I don't really give a shit about that a lot of the time. Sure I love wearing heels and belts help me out occasionally but I really don't see the problem in me dressing purely for fun or comfort. Anyway, I don't want to make excuses for how I dress, this is just me :)

I absolutely love this Wooden Arrow Necklace (the one up the top) by Lucie Ellen that I found via Bambi Eyez blog! I struggled to just pick one colour (and I ended up ordering this other Bunting Necklace also!) and I absolutely love everything in her shop.

The other day we were bored so we decided to give Zara a second shot. The first time we went we stupidly went on open day so we weren't really enthused about the whole thing being that there were so many people in there (I know, we obviously weren't thinking) and the men's section seemed a bit too ... 'ordinary'. But this time was a bit more successful and Harry managed to find himself this awesome green blazer as well as some other cool bits and pieces. I also got sparkly heels, so I was happy too.

Gotta love a cheap pair of sunnies from the petrol station. Also, his shirt is by local label Morning Theft, yay Adelaide!

Chicks That Make Awesome Music That You Should Listen To

Cool title huh.

But just in case you were thinking this one of those sorts of posts about Florence + the Machine, Lana Del Rey (admittedly a guilty pleasure of mine) or Lykke Li, (even though they are all chicks and they all make awesome music), I wanted to share some other amazing musicians you mightn't have heard of and hopefully you'll become a fan too!

JULIANNA BARWICK (usa)

Last week I saw her perform and beforehand the only thing I knew about her was that her description for the event compared her to Philip Glass. This was all the information I needed. If you know me on facebook or twitter then you probably know I tend to get a bit carried away with my love for composer Philip Glass. But, it turns out, she actually isn't much like Philip Glass at all but I fell hard for her. Her incredible voice that she looped on itself just sounded so ethereal and beautifully epic, I'm not going to lie, I actually got a bit teary.

Another experimental musician, Gazelle Twin (Elizabeth Walling), is dark and dreary but absolutely moving. If you like Fever Ray or Björk then you should give Gazelle Twin a listen because I absolutely love her.

Painted Face is Allie Alvarado and she is incredibly cool. I'm a sucker for a female singer with a synth (if you can't tell) and Painted Face ticks all my boxes. I hope she comes to Australia one day, because I'd be all over that like a hot rash.

I was so excited when I was asked by the TUS girls to come along and take piccies at the Cameo/Finders Keepers/Keepsake Press Day event as I'm head over heeeeeeels in love with Cameo (this is me in my Cameo cloak that I love so bad)! So I wasn't sure about this outfit (I wasn't even going to post it but Harry convinced me to), I even tried it with two different skirts and I'm still not sure which one I prefer. So I'm a bit late to the game in regards to Lauren DiCioccio's work but she's definitely found herself a new fan in me. These organza embroidered bags are based on plastic bags the artist found on the street or from shops and are her response to the negative impact they have on our environment.

I have to say, I'm proud that South Australia has banned plastic bags for the past couple of years (along with the Northern Territory and just recently, ACT). Working in a supermarket I find it hilarious when customers roll their eyes or complain about having to spend an extra 15c for a plastic bag but hopefully the rest of the country will follow our lead!

2012 is off to a smashing start, don't you think? After being given a BBQ from my dad for Christmas we decided to have a vegan-friendly shindig with a couple of really good friends of ours who are vegan and IT WAS AWESOOOOOME! We had soy sausages and some sort of not-chicken fillet things and vegan nachos. So good. I love chicken too much to give it up though :/

We ended up getting invited to another BBQ the next night and this is what I wore.

2011: The Highlights

Well over the past few weeks I kept saying to myself "I cannot wait for 2012, this year has been so shit" but then when I went back and looked over the past 12 months I realised it was so much better than I thought. I mean, there will always be many shit moments every year but there are usually some little bright sparks to help even it all out.

I've always enjoyed doing these highlight posts (however silly it may seem to some) but it's a nice way of letting myself see how lucky I really have been.

Radio Spectacular!!!

Probably the most exciting thing to happen to us was having our song You Light Me Up feature in the Australia-wide Yellow Pages television campaign!

Rip It Up magazine named us as one of their Hot Six bands for 2011 and while we didn't do many shows this year, some of our best gigs were supporting The John Steel Singers, Jonathan Boulet and Tim & Jean. Russh Magazine also used our track 1000 Colours in a short video they posted on their Facebook page about RAFW!!! We've also started work on our next EP and we're so excited about our new songs!

I loooooooove doing fashion photography! These shoots were for: The Adelaide Fashion Collective Escaping The Sun Challenge, Claire Markwick-Smith, 2011 TAFE SA Fashion Graduate Parade Catalogue and The Urban Silhouette Spring Break Shoot.

Earlier this year I was asked by Lauren Zwaans, the editor of fashion website The Urban Silhouette, to join the team as one of their photographers! They've kept me busy throughout the year shooting Boutique of the Month features, shooting fashion shows and I got to do my first big shoot for the site, Spring Break.

The Flinders Ranges

Because neither Harry or myself are actually from Adelaide, whenever we have time off for holidays it usually means we go back to Port Lincoln to see my family or Brisbane to see his. This time, however, we thought "stuff it!" and had the most wonderful weekend in the Flinders Ranges! It was so special as the time went by so slowly but we were never bored and it broke our hearts when we had to leave. I would recommend this place to anyone thinking of getting away from everything and clearing their minds.

Geez, I look like a grumpy bastard in these pictures hahaha trust me, I laugh and smile a lot in real life!

So, a bit of an explanation is needed. I've done outfit posts over the past couple of years I've had this blog but it kind of fizzled out a bit when I put on quite a lot of weight this year. I wasn't happy with any of the clothes I had and was feeling a bit down about myself. It wasn't until I came across Asos (in particular Asos Curve) that things turned around for me. Finally! Awesome and cheap clothing for fatties! While my weight is an issue that I need to address in 2012 (for health reasons - this has been the year my body turned against me, fml) I actually get excited now about dressing up and going out in public!

What's this? You can actually see my legs? It must be Summer then!

Please excuse my moon-tan, my legs actually never see sunlight ... actually, I aim to keep my entire body out of the sun at all times when possible haha I'm just not a sun-shiny person.

So this is what you do when you want a tattoo but you're really just not that sure. Even though the rest of this post is about Harry and his amazing (real) tattoo I couldn't help but jump on the bandwagon and see what all the (pain-free) fuss is about. This tattoo is a Tattly and I got this one from one of my favourite shops called Presence. It's pretty similar to what I'm planning on getting done anyway so this was a nice way to test it out!

So I was supremely lucky to get the adorable Diana Mini F+ and a bottle of Viktor & Rolf Flowerbomb from Harry! Also, my dad came over from Port Lincoln to spend Christmas with the two of us and he surprised us with a brand new BBQ! Hellooooooooo amazing chicken wings and chevapchichi's! (If you don't know what a chevapcichi is, then you're missing out)

There's an awesome new online magazine in town and it's called Ember! The first issue is out and as it's just a teaser, it's titled Issue Zero. Cute huh! So I've been hearing how super fantastic Burger Theory is for practically the entire year but somehow have never made it to the same spot as the damned truck. Luckily, last Friday night we finally got there! Bloody hell, it was worth it too. The night before Harry and I played a gig with the adorable Sez (Kikuyu) and before she hopped on the bus back to Melbourne we took her out for a little bit of Adelaide fun. Burger Theory was our first stop and look at her being all adorable while we were lining up. Who doesn't love the colour mint? Nobody, that's who!

After burger fun, we trundled down to Eliza Street where a group of my amazing friends were celebrating the opening of their artist run initiative Tooth and Nail. Tooth and Nail is an exciting, brand new studio and gallery space and you can find out more about here!

So while we were waiting for our burgers to be made with love, Sez and I did a bit of shopping and I came across this amazing iPhone case for Harry (he only has the iPhone 3 so finding cases isn't that easy). Needless to say, he was pretty much the coolest cat that night ...

First of all I'd like to give a warm welcome to all my new readers, hello hello! Many, many thanks to delicious babe Bronny for mentioning me on her blog!

Some of you may or may not know that my partner Harry and I have a band together called Radio Spectacular!!! and last Thursday was our first gig in seven months. We supported the most delightful musician called Kikuyu from Melbourne and if you haven't heard her before then you most definitely need to check her out! The whole night was so much fun and it feels really good to be playing shows again.

It was my best friend Ann's surprise engagement/wedding/bon voyage party the other weekend. Because she didn't organise anything party-wise to celebrate her recent wedding (pictures here), a friend of her husband took it upon himself to organise an epic surprise party for them! I had a pretty hard time keeping it from her during the numerous we met up and she even got really pissed off with everyone when no one was 'available' for a little get together she was trying to organise and finally gave up on hahah Her and Pete left the other day for Boise, Idaho and I'm going to miss them so friggin much :(

The Flinders Part Three

On our second and last day in the Flinders Ranges I wanted to show Harry the gorgeous round trip through the towns Blinman (population 22) and Parachilna (population 7) via the Parachilna Gorge. This really is one of the most beautiful drives and the gorge was dotted most of the way through with people camping. I would like one day for us to go proper camping in the bush ... just not sure we're really the camping type haha

A few months ago Harry and I had the most amazing weekend away in the Flinders Ranges, where I lived and worked for a year a while back. I've wanted Harry to experience this gorgeous place for so long and it was a really special time for us. Ahh it was wonderful. Mind you, we couldn't have been further back if we tried due to the venue being a completely packed out steam-box and us being incredibly lazy to do anything about it but that doesn't mean I didn't enjoy it! (Also, I must apologise to whoever was near me getting wind blowed in their direction thanks to me fanning myself the entire time hahah). Still, Beth Gibbons is a goddess and I'm glad I got to witness Portishead live.

So about these shoes. It's not because I want to wear shoes like this but because I have to. Unfortunately I have heel spurs in both of my feet which makes it extremely difficult to stand or walk for long periods so for the time being (I have no idea how much longer) I have to wear sensible/comfortable (ugly) shoes. I do still wear heels and other nice shoes but that's only when I know I'm going somewhere where I wont be on my feet all the time. Unfortunately, there's not much sitting when you're at a gig haha

Ahh, I love Harry's style so much. I feel so lucky that someone like him wants to be with me, I still pinch myself after all these years! Although, he did steal that bag from me after seeing the smaller version I bought myself hahah

Outfit: 16th November 2011 // The Flaming Lips

Last week was a pretty exciting week for live shows, we were lucky enough to see not only The Flaming Lips but Portishead, Mercury Rev and Jinja Safari! Many good times were had, that's for sure. This is what Harry and I wore to The Flaming Lips which was probably one of the best shows I've been to.

Honestly though, I have a sneaking suspicion that I'm wearing this dress back to front. It's confusing because both sides look pretty much the same but I have the button facing the front and the label on the inside is on the back ... but if I wear it the other way it chokes me. I don't know, the model is wearing it opposite to how I'm wearing it too so it's not looking good for me hahah does anyone else have this dress? HOW DO I WEAR IT?

You really cannot go wrong with confetti canons, giant balloons, Wayne Coyne's crowd surfing bubble, giant hands with laser beams coming out of them and the band emerging from a vagina on the giant screen on the stage. So amazing. Here are a few shots I got on my phone, not the best but at least you get the idea of what an epic show it was!

Yes, you read right. That pink top is from Supre. I never actually thought I would own a single item of clothing from the clothing chain but I kind of fell a bit hard when I saw the rack of candy coloured tops in the window and ended up buying three different ones hehehehe. Whatevs. Also, pretty keen on these pants. I pretty much only ever wear leggings. Leggings as pants. All of those people who complain about people that wear them, have a cry and get over it. For me, coming across pants that not only look good but feel comfortable isn't a common thing. Unfortunately I got these pants a couple of sizes too big so they're actually safety pinned up under my boobs haha but you (hopefully) wouldn't be able to tell!

Added a couple of images of our little backyard set up. The table and chair setting was $30 from Coles! The cushions and fake plant and pot are from IKEA. I'm excited about the fact that we can have our meals outside during Summer now!

Photo Booth Love

I've been a sucker for photo booths for as long as I can remember. The images above were from our trip to the Adelaide Markets yesterday at Morning Glory. When the town I grew up in got the Japanese-style booths my friends and I went Skitz Mix '96 for them. I've come across some pretty awesome booths over the years, my ultimate favourite one was at the old Adelaide airport that printed images onto a Spectra Polaroid WTF! See it below ... (there's some [not really] NSFW tongue-to-tongue action, beware)

Apparently I love wearing sunglasses and making duck-faces in photo booths like a douche bag, but I love this image of Harry and I (above) from a booth in Melbourne on Chapel Street a few years ago. I don't know if there are any left like this in Adelaide, as much fun as the digital Japanese booths can be, nothing beats the original booths.

(Stickers added afterwards, just in case you were fooled by Harry's mustache)

Adelaide Bands You Should Listen To

Basically, I just wanted to share with you some of the awesome local bands I've been listening to a fair bit lately.

MAMMOTH LOGIC

I absolutely adore these guys, the friendliest people you will ever meet and their music is just so good I can't even handle it. We got their album in the post the other day and Harry and I have just basically gone even more little-giddy-fan-girl for them.

My best friend got married! That's her below, right before the ceremony.

It was a very small, no fuss wedding at the registry office - not intended to be a secret but they didn't want a big fuss made.

I was asked to be Ann's witness - as close as I'll ever get to being a bridesmaid haha so I was honored to be a part of it.

I snapped this with my disposable camera as we all left the building, on our way to the pub for some celebratory drinks!

So I love things. It's unfortunate for Harry though, because he not so secretly has a mild distaste for what he likes to call my 'clutter'. Well, I don't really care because my 'clutter' makes me happy! Here are some of the newest additions to our home ...

Gretel Girl cushion (from the Bowerbird Bazaar last weekend - I pretty much fell in love with this cushion at first sight.)

Dawn Tan illustrated recipe box (complete with wooden spoon!). Also from the Bowerbird Bazaar and I got a little bit fan girl when I met Dawn.

T2 cup and saucer and milk jug.

Still in the kitchen (which is funny because I actually don't do any cooking - it's all Harry!) but I absolutely love this retro-looking scales we got from Coles supermarket for around $15 and matching red and white bowls from Target for around $8 I think.

Flinders Ranges souvenir mugs. I stupidly forgot to get one from Wilpena Pound, argh! Oh well, guess we'll have to just organise another trip to the outback to get one ... *sigh* (Pictures from that trip coming soon!)

Polaroid SX-70 Land Camera that I got from Presence - my first ever SX-70! Still getting my head around the Impossible films but you can see some of my images here.

We found this adorable toy piano with accompanying stool at the Fisherman's Wharf Market in Port Adelaide a while back but it's so cute I had to share it. We picked it up for and I keep my favourite Mozart bust and dessert bowl filled with badges displayed on it. Those are all Polaroids taken by Harry on the stool.

Last week I went to GoodLife Pizza a grand total of three times. The first was the first time, the second was to show Harry how amazing it was and the third was because we were meeting some friends I decided it shall be that we eat there. So my outfit is from the first time when I met up with friends and Harry's outfit is from when we dined together. I thought I may as well do a post about the whole shebang, because basically they make really amazing pizzas.

Not quite sure how my hair got so nice and perfectly waved like that - I never get hair-lucky haha but I was loving it! Also these VW shoes are possibly the only comfortable (non-sneaker/ugly-proper) shoes that I have. Which is handy because I have heel spurs, so I'm pretty much restricted to wearing sneakers (UGH!) all the frigging time. So it's nice to have something I can wear for short periods of time that aren't going to make me pass out from pain, yay!

But now here comes the food porn! If you live in Adelaide then awesome for you because there are three GoodLife Pizza's in town! The images below are from the Glenelg restaurant and we got garlic bread and the free range chicken with organic baby potatoes, garlic, rosemary and mild parmesan pizza (YUMMM!) . Also, now that I notice it, there appears to be a slight slant to some of the images ... so apologies to anyone prone to motion sickness.

There was also ice-cream involved in a cute freckle cone from Copenhagen, mmm.

This is what I wore to the AFF Chambord SA Designers Fashion Showcase last Saturday night. I was there taking photos for The Urban Silhouette which you can see here. I think it's safe to say that I am now a fan of local label Stencil - everything in that collection was just really ... cool. Julie White also made me happy with her cute prints. Newbie Necia was very deserving of the Best Emerging Designer Award - still can't believe that she only just graduated from TAFE last year!

For some reason Harry and I have been immersing ourselves in the splendour that is ABBA and it is certainly a grand journey. I know it's not the coolest thing to admit that you're an ABBA fan - even my dad denies that all those ABBA records in his collection are actually his - but there's no way you can say that they aren't brilliant at writing a catchy (and seemingly simple) tune.

Just forget for a second that they have some pretty cheese-ass songs and their weird sequined flares and focus instead on the actual music and their voices!

Lovely.

Anyway, Agnetha was always my favourite - if you can't see why - such enviable hair!

2011 TAFE SA Fashion Graduate Parade Catalogue

Last year as part of our studies, my photography class and I worked together with the graduating fashion students to produce the image for their graduating parade catalogue and I was lucky enough to work with three incredibly talented girls which you can check out here.

Last Friday night I went along with The Urban Silhouette girls to my first event of the Adelaide Fashion Festival which happened to be the TAFE SA Alumni Parade. It also happened to be Harry's birthday weekend so we decided to make a night of it and venture out in the world together. This is what we wore!

I took my disposable camera along with me and please excuse the shitty quality but here are a few snaps from the show. My favourites from the night were pieces from Sainte Luci who used gorgeous Missoni-esque patterned fabrics and couture + love + madness who made a dress completely out of bubble wrap (3rd image below) and another out of what can only be described as a plastic doily tablecloth (4th image) - I love it!

The Barossa

It's been a bit of a dream lately to spend a day wine tasting in the Barossa Valley and when a good friend of mine suggested Harry and I come up and spend the day drinking wine and fine dining with him, how could we not!

We bought ourselves a nice little collection of wine - which we've pretty much finished off already and had the most incredible 8 course meal for dinner that night.

I've had a double pack of Polaroid 600 film sitting in my fridge for years as it's my last lot. However after trying out some of the new Impossible film I've decided it's a bit stupid to hang on to my last packet when it's quite expired and I don't want to miss out on using it at all!

This is just being wankers with instruments in the backyard after our friend sent us this glorious knitted jumper she thought would be quite perfect for Harry (she was quite right, mind). Harry has decided that when he makes a solo album the third image will be the cover hahahah

I had a shoot recently with the absolutely gorgeous Claire Markwick-Smith from Finesse who needed some new shots for her portfolio which I was stupidly excited to do. I've worked with her twice before and she's such a gorgeous and lovely girl - it's pretty much impossible to get a bad picture of her.

She took me to this massive public garden I'd never even heard of near her place that was absolutely stunning and we had it all to ourselves. The last bunch of these images were taken in this little hut where we were and I'll be sharing with you more from the shoot soon!

So this is me all hunky dory happy the morning of my birthday. Harry and I had a day of shopping followed by what was supposed to be a lovely meal out and free tickets to see Washington. Unfortunately we barely spent much time out of the house before we had to come home and feel sorry for ourselves over the dumb cold we both caught.

It started off well though.

And look at what Harry bought me, a bottle of Marc Jacobs Daisy Eau So Fresh! It's so delicious. And it even came with a shower cap! hahaha

I've been sick as a dog all week, which pretty much ruined my birthday the other day. I've had to call in sick at work and both times that I thought I was well enough for work I ended up leaving early. Ugh. So annoyed and not looking forward to a dismal pay day next week.

So anyway, I know this image is over used but it's my favourite tea-towel and is pretty much what I needed right now.

Stop complaining girl and get some sushi!

Spectacular Flowers // Russh Video

Over the past few weeks a house near us has had this glorious display of fresh flowers for sale and I've been desperate to have a photo shoot there. I got permission from the owner who was more than happy for us to get in their way for a few shots haha

We'd managed to time it so the shoot was the day before Mother's Day so they were quite busy but we managed to squeeze in a few awesome shots. My best friend Andre helped out by taking the shots and she's also the crafty genius behind the adorable crocheted bow brooch I'm wearing - so cuuuute!

Even though I was under the impression they were going to stop selling flowers after Mother's Day they're still up and running so if you're in Adelaide and want some pretty fresh flowers check out the corner of Beckman and Albion Streets in Glandore.

Also, while I'm talking about the band, I was so excited to see our song 1000 Colours on a video by Russh Magazine highlighting bits from RAFW!!! Check it out here!

So I haven't done an outfit post in a while. I haven't done much of anything on this blog for a while - I hope you forgive me. I've been half too busy and half too slack so I don't know what that makes me other than sorry :) Well I've got months of images to edit and share with you and first up is what I wore to my cousin's Bridal Shower (not Hens Night - much fancier than that, thank you).

The extreme competitor in me came out that night and I was left crushed that I didn't win the quiz on the bride (her mum won! hahaha) or the toilet paper wedding dress competition (the winner used safety pins - scandalous!) but all in all was a lovely night.

Kay and Paul

A few weeks ago my gorgeous cousin Kay got married to a wonderful guy called Paul.

It all happened at the Glen Ewin Estate which is a stunning place just outside of Adelaide.

Even though she had a professional photographer for the ceremony (I refused to do it hahah I didn't want to be stressed during her wedding) I agreed to photograph the reception.

These are a few of the images, you can even find Harry (in the rad grey suit) and myself (in the blue dress) in a couple of photos. Also, how cute is the wedding cake - it's made of cupcakes! Each guest got their own cupcake, such a great idea!
